Alfred Clifton Mitchell, Jr., hometown of Luling, went to be with the Lord on May 6, 2023. Born January 25, 1947 in Luling, to Alfred Clifton Sr. & Evelyn Bishop Mitchell. Known to friends and family as Cliff, he married Connie Davidson on December 27, 1969 at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in San Marcos. Cliff was an outstanding athlete at Luling High, and continued his athletic career at Southwest Texas State University with scholarships in football, basketball, and baseball where he earned his Bachelors of Science in Physical Education and an additional Masters in Counseling and Guidance. Cliff served his country in the United States Army National Guard prior to his celebrated 46-year coaching career. Cliff made lasting impressions on all he met, family, students, players, and colleagues.
Survivors are, his wife, Connie Mitchell of San Marcos Texas. Daughter, Britni Johnson, spouse, Derek Johnson, and two granddaughters, Orien, and Baylea Johnson, of Marion Texas. Son, Dan Mitchell and spouse, Cassie Mitchell, of Martindale Texas. And Brother-in-law, Lyt Callihan of Manchaca Texas.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Alfred Clifton Mitchell Sr., Evelyn Bishop Mitchell, son, David Wade Mitchell, and sister, Mary Elizabeth Callihan.
A memorial will be held on Wednesday May 24th, 2023 at 2:00 pm at St. Marks Episcopal Church on Ranch Road 12 in San Marcos, TX. A reception will be held following services, in the Parrish Hall at the church.
