Obituary for Alvis William Edwards

Alvis Edwards, 93, of Luling, Texas went to be with the Lord on August 15, 2023. He was born March 24, 1930 in Harwood, Texas to Lonnie Webster and Georgia Mae Latham Edwards. He married Mary Goates Edwards on January 31, 1952. He worked as a truck driver and in the oil field for Magnolia Oil Company. He served with the US Army during the Korean Conflict achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant. During his service in Korea, he was captured by enemy forces and held in a POW camp for a year.

Alvis is survived by his wife, daughter, Georgiann Matthews of Luling, Texas, 2 grandchildren, Stephanie and JL Timms of Tilden, Texas, and Stephen and Sarah Matthews of League City, Texas, and 4 great-grandchildren: Brandon and Joseph Timms and Luke and Charlotte Matthews. He is also survived by his sister Dorothy Nell Gilkey of Harwood plus numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Lonnie Burleson Edwards, and sister Neoma Colwell.

Visitation will be held starting at 12:30 PM on Sunday, August 20th, 2023 at O’Bannon Funeral Home with services following at 2:30 PM with Bro. Todd Craven officiating. Graveside services will be held immediately following at the Luling City Cemetery. Pallbearers are Larry Wayne Edwards, JL Timms, Stephen Matthews, Brandon Timms, Joseph Timms, and Luke Matthews.
