Upon returning to Gonzales, he resumed his career in the oil industry working for Nixon drilling as a Superintendent and then eventually started his own company, AFG Drilling. He loved the oilfield and made this his career for 60 years.

Aubrey and Rose spent a lot of their married life traveling with some of their closest friends. They saw beautiful places including Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Alaska, and Hawaii to name a few.
