Obituary for Braxton Perry Smallwood Jr.

Braxton Perry Smallwood, Jr., better known as Brac, passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends on Sunday, December 12th, 2021 in Austin, Texas. His death marked the end of a long and courageous battle against leukemia and multiple myeloma.
Brac was born on January 23, 1971 in Luling, Texas. He graduated from Luling High School in 1990 and enlisted in the U.S. Navy shortly after receiving his diploma. Brac married his first wife, Deborah Tait in 1991. They welcomed two sons, Trey in 1994 and Trenton in 1998. After serving 4 years in the Navy, Brac took a brief hiatus from the military before re-enlisting in the U.S. Army, where he served 20 years and then retired to Texas. Brac’s most notable accomplishments from his military career included a tour in Iraq in 2003, as well as bringing in the next generation of young service men and women during his time as a recruiter.
Brac was a huge gun enthusiast – he loved buying, selling and trading guns and going to shooting ranges with friends. He was also a history buff and a voracious reader, which made him an encyclopedia of all the random trivia you did (or didn’t) want him to rattle off at any given moment. Brac never met a stranger and would strike up a conversation with anyone. He made countless friends throughout his travels with the military, many of whom were still in contact until his passing. Brac was best known for his quick wit, his gentlemanly nature and his larger than life personality. He also took great pleasure playing pranks on friends, family and colleagues. No one was safe from the king of mischief, not even the elderly. Brac’s children were without question the highlight of his life. Both boys share the very best of Brac’s traits; his memory will undoubtedly live on through them.
Brac is survived by his loving mother, Mary Ann Seay of Luling, little sister, Whitney Seay of Kyle, son Braxton Perry Smallwood III of Ft. Lauderdale, son Trenton Taylor Smallwood, daughter in-law Messiah, grandson Lorenzo and granddaughter Alita of Fort Carson, his uncle Steve and aunt Sammye Smallwood of Uvalde, his aunt Gaye Faglie of Uvalde, and several cousins including Lance Jones of San Marcos, whom he considered his brother, and his beloved fur baby and companion, Tina Marie. He is preceded in death by his father, Perry Smallwood, grandparents Mary and Ray Seay, grandparents Rene and Gerald Smallwood and uncle Brian Faglie.
