Obituary for Delores Sepulveda (Cortinas)

Delores Sepulveda, cherished wife, sister, mother, grandmother, aunt, and cousin departed her earthly life on February 28, 2021 in Austin, Texas with her beloved family by her side

Delores was born to parents Santos and Anita Cortinas, July 17th, 1943 in Luling, Texas. She graduated from Luling High School, and received a BA in Education from St. Edward's University.

Delores was married to the love of her life, Refugio Ramon (Raymond) Sepulveda, for 60 years. They lived in Palestine, Texas for 7 years before relocating to Austin in 1971. Delores is preceded in death by her parents Santos and Anita Cortinas, her sisters Lydia Salas and Sylvia Mendoza, and her brother Ishmael Cortinas.

Delores will be deeply missed by her husband Raymond, their three children: Robert Sepulveda and wife Christie, Joseph Sepulveda, and Christina Sepulveda Hammon; her surviving siblings, Olivia Crews, Pete Cortinas, and Sandra Maldonado, and her dear cousins and friends.

Her grace and kindness will carry on in her cherished grandchildren Amanda Sepulveda, Alexandra Hammon, and partner Tony Reyes, Bobby Sepulveda Jr, Luke Sepulveda, Ivan Sepulveda, Eva Sepulveda, and Sophia Sepulveda; and two great-grandchildren: Christopher Johnson and ChrisLynn Johnson. These children were the absolute delight of her life and they will carry her handprint on their hearts forever.

Delores was an accomplished bilingual teacher in the Austin Independent School District for over 30 years before retiring from Sanchez Elementary. Hundreds of children became English language speakers under her patient guidance and she was a mentor teacher for many student teachers. She had a lasting impact on the many young lives she taught, especially those in underserved communities. We are honored that Delores’s legacy will live on through the opportunity she gave others through education.

Delores would be honored to have memorial donations in her name to Austin Ed Fund https://austinedfund.org/
