Obituary

Franklin Duane Otto, known by several names: Duane, Bud and Pop, was born in Stairtown, Texas on June 3, 1939 to Frank and Gladys Otto. He was married to Carol Otto on July 24, 1959 in Bastrop, Texas. He worked in the welding and oilfield industry all his life. He worked up until his heart surgery in June. His favorite thing in the world was his grandkids and watching them play sports and wouldn’t miss any of their school activities. He considered his biggest accomplishment to be his children and family. He loved and was loved by so many people in our community and he was considered an adopted dad and grandpa to many. He was a member of the Hardeman Masonic Lodge for more than 50 years. He enjoyed deer hunting in the winter, staying at the beach for the summer, riding in the pastures checking his cattle, and trips to the casinos with his family. He enjoyed attending safety meetings at his shop with the safety crew. He loved country music and dancing. Duane was survived by his children Connie and Ronnie Gilkey, Kim Otto, Jennifer and Kenneth Zumwalt and Jimmy Otto; grandchildren Robert and Brittany Johnson, Kristyn and Brian Ricketts, Ronnie Jr. and Amy Gilkey, Cody Gilkey, Lacey Bohanan, Trevor Grabarkewitz, Rylee Grabarkewitz, Jarred Zumwalt, Wesley Zumwalt, Casey Otto, Brice Otto, Christopher Otto, Jonathan Otto and Natalie Otto; great grandchildren Gracy Ricketts, Brian Ricketts Jr, Wyatt Ricketts, and Gentry Johnson; sisters Sue and David Pettus and Linda and Don Bedwell; nephew Tracy Otto. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents and brother, J.B. Otto. Pallbearers will be his grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be Earl West, Ross Cheatham, James Mace, Joe Newsom, Gary Pruitt, Rusty Horne, Ryan Edwards, Hank Sauls, Bob Durrett, Bruce Rabe, Jacob Chastain, JJ Jurek, Jimmie Hall, Billy Wayne Watts, Cal Watts, Rone Allen, Jay Pruitt. Funeral services will be on Thursday, October 24th 10am at Central Baptist Church with graveside following at the Luling City Cemetery.
