Obituary for George Conley

George Conley, 90, passed away peacefully July 18, 2022, in Kyle, Texas. He was born March 30, 1932 in Luling, Texas to Sam and Helen Conley.
George served honorably in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was a member of American Legion Post 177.
George married Tina Lugo on October 17, 1959 in Seguin, Texas.
George worked in the hardware business for over 53 years. He worked most of those years for E&K Lumber Company and ended his work life with Apple Lumber. He finally retired at the age of 80. George was a devoted employee and rarely missed work. He loved his job and loved helping people. People would look for George when needing help finding supplies.
George was also a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He loved his family and extended family. He taught his children to care about people and to be kind. He never raised his voice to his children or lost patience with them. His life was fulfilled by spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
George enjoyed watching sports especially football and baseball. He was a loyal fan of the Dallas Cowboys, Texas Longhorns, Luling Eagles, and Houston Astros. Even when his teams were losing, he never lost faith.
George also enjoyed listening to bluegrass and country & western music. Some of his favorite artists included Johnny Cash, Dolly Parton, Conway Twitty, Loretta Lynn, George Jones, and Hank Williams.
George loved to cook. Every Sunday, he would cook big meals for the family. Thanksgiving was his favorite holiday, and he cooked almost the complete meal by himself. All enjoyed the meal but especially his cornbread dressing and pecan pie.
George was preceded in death by his parents, sister Sophie, and brothers Leonard Earl, Sammie, Joe, and Bill Conley.
George is survived by his wife Tina Conley of Luling; daughters Debra Major (Peter) of Prairie Lea, Terri Conley (Joe Ramirez) of Lockhart; sons Kenneth Conley and Keith Conley (Shanna) all of Luling. Grandchildren: Amber Zamora (David), Ariana Cruz (Pablo De Velasco), Kross Conley, Kase Conley, Randall Mikesh (Amanda), and Garvin Mikesh (Catherine Pullin). Great Grandchildren: Addisyn, Ashtyn, Laela, Kinsley, Ezekiel, Banx, Natalie, Paityn, Garynn, Rion, and Beckham. He also leaves behind his devoted dog Rusty.
Pallbearers: Randall Mikesh, Garvin Mikesh, Paul Mikesh, Kross Conley, Kase Conley, and Michael Lugo. Honorary Pallbearers: Joe Lugo, Thomas Flores, Sam Young, Mark Meador, Hank Alex, Preston Moses, Bret Cappleman, and Ed Cappleman.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Luling Animal Welfare Society, PO Box 653, Luling, TX 78648 or a charity of your choice. The family extends a heartfelt thank you to the Cappleman family, Debbie Kinsey of Diversicare of Luling, and Ascension Seton Hays.
