Obituary for Joanna Beatrice Glass (Rossington)

Joanna Beatrice Rossington Glass was born on December 16, 1938 to Beatrice Went Rossington & David Rossington in Zavala County, Texas. Bea & Jake Bookout then blessed her with 2 Sisters, Otha Alwina “TEENA” and Jimmy LaDonna “DONNA” Bookout. Joann’s High school years were filled with activities and honors- football sweetheart, cheerleader, class representative, student council, athlete in several sports, honor society… all done with grace and humility. She was a friend to all and a cornerstone of the Crystal City High School Class of 1957.

After attending a dance at Garner State Park, she would meet her husband of 53 years, Carl Glass, while both were attending Texas A&I College in Kingsville, Texas, and enjoyed a life-long love of dancing. They were married at the First Presbyterian Church at Crystal City, Texas on February 14, 1959 before moving to Corpus Christi, where Carl worked on the Ship Channel.

Their first child Carl Jr. “TAD” was born in 1959. They then moved to Crystal City where Carl began his teaching career and in 1962, Melanna Dee was born. Carl took a brief school teaching job in Caldwell, Texas before moving the family to Luling, Texas in 1965. Joanna would finish her teaching degree at Southwest Texas College and begin her teaching career in Luling. She would retire from Luling ISD after having taught 30 years, touching many, many students of the Luling Community.

She loved to work in the yard, volunteered at the food bank, was an avid bowler, and was an active member of the Presbyterian Womens Group.

She is survived by her son; Carl Jr and wife, Debbie and her daughter; Dee and husband, John. Her grandchildren Vanessa Glass, Deanna Schley, Joshua Wilson, Carley Palomo, Jennifer Encinia and Hunter Hollon, great grandchildren Jayda, Lance, Cooper, Hazel, Landon , Carter, Mariah, Gavin, Samantha, Addyson; great, great, granddaughter; Aria.

Joanna touched the lives of many people in the Luling area as a teacher and as a "ranchers wife". Her table was always open to any of her friends and her children’s friends who wanted a meal and a bit of advice, if needed.

Joanna was a lifelong member of the Presbyterian Church and was still attending services, via zoom audio, faithfully every week. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Presbyterian Church in Luling. P.O. Box 531, Luling, TX 78648.
