Obituary for John William Welch Jr.

John W. Welch, Jr., lovingly called “Junior”, peacefully passed away Sunday November 3, 2019, at
the age of 92. Born April 23, 1927, he was the youngest son of John W. and Ruth Etheridge Welch.

A lifelong resident of Luling and the McNeil Community, he attended both McNeil and Luling schools
and was a member of McNeil Baptist Church. Junior was a farmer/rancher, and in later years served
as a licensed security guard. He married Margie Faye Brashears on May 7, 1976.

Junior was preceded in death by his wife, parents, one brother, Victor, and two sisters, Florene Hall and Vennis Vogt. He is survived by his step-daughter, Janet Faye Price of Spring, Texas, sister, Nancy Grantham of Luling, five nieces and four nephews as well as numerous great nieces , nephews and cousins.

A quiet, mild mannered man, he was slow to anger and would never knowingly embarrass, offend or hurt anyone. He loved to entertain family members with his funny stories. He proudly served in the Army National Guard and attained the rank of Sgt. 1st Class.

A visitation was held at 9am at O’Bannon Funeral Home followed by graveside services at McNeil Community Cemetery on November 6 at 11 am. Services were officiated by Rev. Rick Perkins. Special music was provided by Rev. Rick and Pat Perkins and also Matt Grantham.

Serving as pallbearers were nephews Bill Vogt, Gary Vogt, Matt Grantham and J. W. Hall, great-nephews Travis Tresner and Derek Hall.

The family thanks Magnolia Living & Rehabilitation and Heart to Heart Hospice for their love and care over the past few years. Memorials can be made to McNeil Baptist Church or charity of choice.
