Obituary for Lanora Louise Williams (Williams)

Lanora “Ms.L” Williams joined her Father in Heaven on March 5, 2023. She was a fighter her entire life, and her feisty, strong, beautiful spirit was known by many in the small town she had deep roots in. God knew His child was tired, and called His child home to take her rest. Lanora was born January 22, 1956 in Tyler, TX to Mrs. Nora Lee Hamm-Williams and Dr. Henry M. Williams Sr., both of which were native Luling-ites and childhood sweethearts. She was the youngest of two, and absolutely adored her big brother, Henry M. Williams Jr (proceeded in death.) and was also her mother and father’s shadows. She spent her holidays and summers in Luling with her cousins and grandparents, and loved her time with her family . “Brat,” as she was lovingly referred to by her father, was the daughter of two prominent educators and absolutely loved to learn. She was an ambitious and inquisitive person, and enjoyed to challenge others around her. She spent her early years in Tyler, TX where she attended Emmett J. Scott and then A.M Story High School; which were both schools that her parents were educators.. Being the daughter of the school Principal and English teacher came with a bit of pressure, but Lanora was a straight A student and was commended regularly for her academic achievements, and extracurriculars. She was a talented musician, and also had a love for music and records. Lanora always carried the gift of communicatin; which is the Williams trademark, and had the ability to make conversation with any one with ease. With that, her chosen degree path of Radio Communications was absolutely perfect for her, and with that her mother, father and brother packed up and drove from Texas to Fisk University in Nashville, TN in 1974. Life sometimes takes us on another path, and that path led her to come back to her family, who were now residing in Houston. During her life time, she has had amazing opportunities and experiences; one of which was her decade-long career working in the corporate offices of Shell Oil Company. She also obtained and held a real estate license at the same time. She also spent an amount of time working as the receptionist for the president of Texas Southern University, where she made many prominent and life-long connections Her mother’s retirement and health brought Lanora to Luling, which was her final home. Lanora grew up in church and has always been a God-fearing woman, and renewed her bond with her Father, who loves all of His children just the same. Although Lanora had a troubled heart, she still operated on the Christian principle of paying it forward and helping/sharing when she could.. Under the abrasive exterior, her intentions were good and she loved those who loved her. In her last years, she found her church home at Maranatha, where she would attend services. God saw the beauty in all things, including the broken, and after years of internal struggles, He called His child home to finally take her rest. She leaves behind a community of people that knew her well, her only child (Lanora D.) and her only Granddaughter, Kamiyah. She is also survived by her only niece, Khalila and her great- nephew Khalil, nephew Rahsaan, and a host of cousins and other relatives and many who were like family. She had her angels waiting for her return; her grandparents, mother, father and brother. There will never be another soul like Lanora’s, and she will be forever missed.
