Obituary for Leslie Slater Hill (Slater)

Leslie Ann Slater Hill, 66, passed away on Tuesday, May 18, 2021. She was born April 12, 1955 in Luling, TX to Edwin Parker and Helen Darwin Slater, Sr. Leslie graduated from Luling High School as salutatorian of her class in 1973. She played the clarinet in the band, winning top scores with a solo and ensemble. Leslie was also in the choir, participated in the DECA and Pan Am clubs as well as a class officer. She continued her education at the University of Texas in Austin, studying Sociology and finished with a Bachelor of Arts degree in May 1977. Leslie went into the banking industry for many years as a personal banker. She retired from Bank of American in Austin early to care for her mother and husband. She married Donald Eugene Hill on April 18, 1995 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Leslie treasured their unique relationship and cherished their many laughs throughout the years.
Leslie had a tremendous thirst for history. She researched her genealogical history and discovered that she was a direct decedent of Avington McElroy who served in North Carolina during the American Revolution. She became a member of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution in the year 2000. She transferred her membership to the Clearfork Chapter in Lockhart in 2002. She served in many capacities but her friends in the DAR will revere the memory of her willingness to serve, her cheerful nature and her ability to bring smiles to the faces of others. Leslie remained a selfless giving person even after death as she remembered the lives of others in giving of herself as a tissue donor.
Leslie is survived by her sister Patricia Elizabeth Slater of Flatonia, brother Edwin Parker Slater, Jr. (Mary) of Pipe Creek, TX, stepdaughter, Deanna Hill Walden (Jason) and grandchildren Jonathan Jason Walden and Michelle “Shelly” Hannah Walden of Lakehills, TX and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, brother William Parker Slater and several pets and rescues that were loved tremendously by her. Especially fond of her dog Ally and her mother’s cat Sam.
