Obituary for Mamie Jane Nickells (Moses )

Mamie Jane Nickells was called home to her Savior on September 22, 2019 at the age of 92. She was born on August 16, 1927 to Bonnie and Lee Moses. Mammy to all who knew her was one of the most beautiful, sweet, kind, good hearted, loving, non-judgmental and Christ like persons we have ever known. She was the epitome of unconditional love.
She married the love of her life Bryan Nickells in 1944. Together they raised three boys and were dedicated to their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren in all aspects of their lives.
Mamie graduated from Luling High School in 1944. She lived in Luling her entire life except for a short period when Bryan was stationed in Chicago and Nebraska while serving in the US Navy during WWII. When she returned to Luling, she later served as Chair of the March of Dimes campaign in Luling and President of the PTA. She worked for the Federal Food Bank for many years. She was an avid reader and supporter of the JB Nickells Memorial Library, never missing an opportunity to help at the annual book sales. Mamie was active in the Church participating in UMW, Sunday school, Granny’s attic, Trunk or Treat, VBS, Summer reading program, many other projects that the women of the church organized, and above all she was a dedicated prayer warrior. Mamie was a member of a monthly “Birthday Club” for over 50 years. Birthdays were Special to Mamie. She cooked special birthday dinners for her children and grandchildren up until this summer. She always met everyone with a smile and a hug.
She is survived by her children Craig, Jamie and his wife Robin, Walter and his wife Arden. Ten grandchildren Trey and his wife Jan, LeAnna and her husband Owen, Aaron and his wife Nicole, Ryan and his wife Leslie, Dale and his wife Kourtney, Julienne and her husband Matt, Skylar and his wife Valerie, Tyler and his wife Stacey, Colin and Teran.
