Mary Helen Dedeker Caffey left this earth for heaven on November 25, 2020.
She was born to Sherman Dock & Ellen Mary Meek Dedeker on December 18, 1924, in Gonzales, Texas. She was a graduate of Luling High School and in 1942 married her GI love, Kenneth A. Caffey, in Luling, Texas. They had 5 children. She was a military wife and followed her husband around the country including two tours in Japan while raising the children. After returning to luling to live in the home her father built on Travis Street, she took up golf and played almost daily and loved to read. She has been a member of the First Christian Church since childhood.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Kenneth Caffey at the young age of 45, her son, Kenneth Caffey, Jr., her brother Sherman, and sister Nola Mae.
She is survived by her daughters, Vicki & Fred Hanz, and Dyan & Sharon Dahlberg, and sons, Pat & Connie Caffey, and Mike Caffey. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Carl Dahlberg, Chris Dahlberg, Jason & Sara Caffey, Jeremy Caffey, Misty Caffey, Kenny Caffey, Matthew & Kristen Caffey, Michael Caffey, Tonya & Jeff Hajek, Shannon & Ryan Hoberer, and Erin & aaron Belanger. She was also blessed with many wonderful great grandchildren.
She always enjoyed a good laugh even at her expense. She never met a stranger and never was at a loss for words. She was very accepting and loved her family. She fought a hard courageous battle to make it to 95 years. She will be greatly missed by many.
A private family graveside service was held at 11:00 AM Monday November 30, at the Luling Cemetery to celebrate her life with Chaplain Mike McClung and Rev. Elliot Richmond officiating. Pallbearers were Carl Dahlberg, Chris Dahlberg, Kenny Caffey, Matthew Caffey, Jason Caffey, & Jeff Hajek.
Due to current CDC, State and local mandates, protective measures regarding social distancing, limited attendance capacity, and use of personal protective masks will be required for the visitation, chapel service and graveside burial rite. Services are under the care and direction of O’Bannon Funeral Home.”
