Obituary for Mildred Visel
Mildred Anderson Visel passed away October 27, 2022, at the University Hospital in San Antonio, Texas, due to complications sustained from a fall. She led a long and fulfilling life for 98 years, 5 months and 3 days.
Mildred Williams Anderson was born at home May 24, 1924, in Kingsbury, Texas. the only child of Carl Lester and Olive Mildred Williams Anderson. She was the next to the youngest of twenty seven Anderson grandchildren. Mildred was the last of her generation.
On April 3, 1945, Mildred married Marine PFC, Clifton Spring Visel from Matahuala, Mexico, in San Marcos. After a brief honeymoon in Matahuala; Clifton returned to duty at Klamath Falls Barracks, in Oregon. Mildred returned to Southwest Texas Teachers College to complete her Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics. A few days after graduation, she boarded a train in San Antonio to join her new husband in Klamath Falls, Oregon. After Cliff mustered out of the Marine Corp; they spent the next few years in Austin and San Marcos working towards Cliff earning his college degree. Mildred began her career as an educator at San Marcos Baptist Academy teaching science. Once Cliff graduated with his Bachelor of Arts degree; they moved to the small ranching town of Bracketville. In 1950 they were blessed with the birth of their son, Paul.
In 1951 they moved to Premont, Texas, where they built a home, added two more members to the family, daughter, Patti, and son, Greg, and developed deep friendships as valued members of the community. In 1960 Mildred returned to teaching, with the intention of working for one semester. She retired from the Premont ISD in May, 1986. Mildred was an active member of the Premont First United Methodist Church, served as President of the United Methodist Women’s society, a Sunday school teacher and was a board member. She was a Beta Sigma Phi, which later evolved into The Friendship Club, the Friday Breakfast Group, and the Premont Funtastic Red Hatters. In 2018 she left her home of sixty seven years, moving to Uvalde to be closer to her children.
Mildred was preceded in death by her husband of fifty seven years, Clifton (Cliff), and her parents, Carl and Olive Anderson.
She is survived by her three children, Paul (Lenny) Visel, Patti (William) Ward, and Greg (Julie) Visel. Five grandsons, Nick (Victoria) Visel, Dan (Sarah) Visel, Lt. Colonel Thomas Visel, Neil Visel, and Matt (Caitlin) Visel, and three great granddaughters, Pierce, Scotty and Ailey Visel
Mildred will be laid to rest in the Highsmith Cemetery outside of Luling. The family invites her friends and family to join them as they celebrate the life of their remarkable mother on December 10, 2022 at 11 am. Visitation and refreshments will be held after the service at The Warehouse, 110 N Walnut, Luling, Texas.
