It’s with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our husband, father, grandfather, brother,
uncle and friend who passed away in the early morning at his home in Austin, TX on February
16, 2024.

Pete was born December 4, 1941 in the small town of Luling, Texas to Santos Cortinas and Anita
Davila. He graduated from Luling High School in 1959 and he joined the Marine Corps where he
served one tour in the Vietnam War. He retired from the Marine Core in 1959. He later joined
the U.S. Coast Guard from October 16, 1963 - March 12, 1972 where he served a second tour in
Vietnam. Pedro re-enlisted from January 19, 1977 and retired on May 31, 1987. Pedro lived his
life dedicated to serving his country. Anywhere he went you would always see him wearing his
retired veteran cap, sharing stories about his life in the military.

Pete is survived by his wife, Maria G. Cortinas, son Peter Cortinas, daughters: Karen Lemieux,
Charlotte Cortinas and Veronica Phillips. Grandchildren: Brandon Lemieux, Tiffany Rojas, Avery
Cortinas, Zayden Cortinas, Jacob A. Alvarado and Matthew D. Negrete. Sisters: Sandra
Maldanado and Olivia Cews, and many other family and friends

He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, Martha E. Cortinas, sisters: Lydia Salas, Sylvia
Mendoza, Delores Sepulveda and brother, Ismael Cortinas.

Visitation will be held at O’Bannon Funeral Home from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM on Friday, February
23, 2024. Service will be held on Saturday, February 24th at 11:00 AM with Pastor Jonathan
Botello officiating. Military graveside services will be held immediately following at the Luling
City Cemetery where he will be laid to rest. The Luling American Legion Post 177 will provide a
military service.

Pallbearers are Adrian Maldanado, David Salas, Bob Sepulveda, Juan Verdin, Jacob Alvarado,
Matthew Negrete and honorary pallbearers Michael Cortinas and Russel Crews.

The family would like to express great appreciation to the nurses, doctors, chaplains and staff at
St. David’s Hospice in Austin, TX for their love, care and support.
