Obituary for Raymond Earl McGlothlin

RAYMOND EARL McGLOTHLIN

Raymond Earl McGlothlin passed away on October 12, 2023. He was born in Luling, Texas on December 16, 1931 to Jesse and Bessie McGlothlin. He graduated from Luling High School in 1947, and married Rose Marie Nixon in 1954. Raymond graduated from Texas State Teachers College with a B.S. in Chemistry, and from South Texas College of Law with a Juris Doctorate. He also studied at Texas A & M University and University of Oklahoma.
Throughout his life, Raymond wore many hats and pursued a variety of interests. He was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving during the Korean War as an M.P. During the NASA Apollo program he worked for Martin Marietta Materials to use specialized materials and helped develop nosecones for rocket re-entries. He was a research chemist and ultimately Vice President of Research for Dresser Magcobar, a drilling fluids business. After leaving Dresser Magcobar he founded R & F Industries, Inc., eventually returning to Luling, a manufacturer of specialty chemicals for the drilling industry. Raymond was a cattle rancher and he enjoyed restoring and improving old houses. He served as a Board Member (sometimes Chairman of the Board) for a myriad of churches over his lifetime. He was a counselor and mentor to a host of fortunate individuals. Raymond was a loving husband to Rose and a father for 67 years. He was active in Luling Community Service, serving as President of the Zedler Mill Foundation and Councilman on the Luling City Council. He and Rose supported many Luling organizations.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Rose Marie McGlothlin, and is with her now in Heaven. He is survived by his son, Stan and daughter-in-law Jeanne, of New Braunfels, TX; grandsons Brett, of Burleson, TX and Preston and his wife Meagan and their son Sam, of Austin, TX; sister Esther Coggin, of Colorado Springs, CO; many nieces and nephews and extended family and friends.
Pallbearers will be Preston McGlothlin, Brett McGlothlin, Kris Winegeart, Caleb Wade, Rick Hathaway and Greg Watson.
Visitation is to be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 17, 2023, at O’Bannon Funeral Home, 210 S. Laurel Ave., Luling TX.
Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 18, 2023, at the Family Worship Center, located at 1155 N. Magnolia Ave., Luling, TX, officiated by Scott Hoxworth.
Memorial donations can be made to the Luling Oil Museum or the Luling Foundation.
