Obituary for Sue Ann Campbell (Adams)

Sue Ann Campbell passed from this life to her eternal home in heaven on June 1, 2023. Sue formerly lived in Irving, Texas and Frisco, Texas and was currently a resident of Luling, Texas.

Sue was born on July 21, 1940, in Shawnee Oklahoma to Bill and Ola Adams. She graduated as a Salutatorian from Meeker High School in 1958 and from Oklahoma State College in Edmond, Oklahoma in 1962 with a degree in education. She taught elementary school for many years in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Irving, Texas, retiring in 2001.

Sue grew up on a farm a few miles outside of Meeker, Oklahoma and attended a one-room schoolhouse through sixth grade, where her mother was her teacher. In high school, she served as Secretary of Future Homemakers of America, had the lead role in her Junior Class play, and was Junior Class President. In college, she was a member of the Shakespeare Social Club, worked in the Registrar’s Office, and was active in the Baptist Student Union, where she began dating her future husband, Gene Campbell.

Sue was very creative and loved crafting (everything from ceramics to macrame). She was a collector and her collections included stuffed bears, teapots, magnets, Christmas Snow Village pieces, ornate Santas and nutcrackers. She loved Christmas and baking and decorating sugar cookies with her children, and later, her grandchildren. She also handmade personalized Christmas stockings for every member of her family. She was an avid reader and a long-time Book Club member and a member of the Red Hat Society. She was a Southern Baptist, and throughout her life she was a faithful, active church member, choir member, youth sponsor, and VBS teacher. Most importantly, Sue was a Christian, having trusted by faith in Jesus as Savior. By His grace and glory, she now sees Him face-to-face.

Sue is survived by her son, Tom (Sarah) Campbell of Luling, Texas and daughter, Julie Heft of Denver, Colorado; grandchildren, Jamie (Devon) Wright of Denton, Texas, Jacob (Brenna) Wright of Denver, Colorado, Geoffrey Campbell of Grapevine, Texas, Seth Campbell of Tyler, Texas, and Alec (Ayanna) Heft of Denver, Colorado; great-grandchildren, Miles, L.J., Ashton, and Cleo; sister, Janene (Jerry) Hampton of Chattanooga, Tennessee; and nephews, Eric (Darla) Hampton and Bryan (Ceri) Hampton. She was preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Ola Adams; nephew, Greg Hampton, and niece, Amy Hampton.
