Obituary for Virginia Ingeborg Moore (Carlson)

Virginia Moore

Virginia Carlson Moore, 97, of Luling, Texas, went home to her loving Savior on March 16, 2022, a beautiful warm sunny day.

She was a first generation American citizen born in Boston, Massachusetts on October 23, 1924 to Swedish immigrant parents, Emanuel R. Carlson and Karin Johnson Carlson. She, along with her two sisters, grew up during the Great Depression where she learned that love of family was more important than material possessions.

After high school, she worked in a dental office and had dreams of becoming a dental hygienist. She instead chose love and moved from the East Coast city to the Great State of Texas to a little house out in the country with no electricity.

Virginia met the love of her life, Marlin V. Moore, Sr. while he was stationed at Buzzard Bay, Massachusetts during World War II and they were married by a Lutheran Minister in the home of her parents. She was raised and confirmed in the Lutheran Church, but found her Lord and Savior and was baptized in forever church family at the McNeil Baptist Church where she was a member for over 70 years.

She was a loving wife and mother of three children. Her job and the joy of her life was raising her family while helping keep the books for her husband’s gas station. She was always willing and ready to help family, a church member, or friend in need. We know she is rejoicing with Jesus and all those who have gone before her.

Virginia is survived by her children: Marlin V. Moore, Jr. “Lou” and Rita Moore, Karen and Clyde Sommerlatte, and Randy and Brenda Moore; grandchildren: Kimberley and Jason Booth, Chris and Maja Sommerlatte, Brandon Cade and Karry Moore, Kelly and Rale Braune, Ashley and Tyler Tolley, Jamie, Samye and Brooks; greatgrandchildren: Emma Booth, Iliamna and Riley Sommerlatte, Braxton and Easton Moore, and Brayden and Logan Rose Braune; her sisters and in laws: Ruth Quinn, Ann and Freddie Venus, Spurgeon and Ellen Moore, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Marlin V. Moore, Sr. her loving husband of 62 years, and many wonderful brother and sister-in laws.

Visitation will be held at McNeil Baptist Church on Wednesday, March23, 2022 at 10:00 am with service to follow at 11:00 am. Internment immediately following service at Hall Cemetery. Service will be officiated by Brother Rick Perkins, Pastor. Pallbearers include Chris Sommerlatte, Cade Moore, Riley Sommerlatte, Jason Booth, Rale Braune, and Tyler Tolley. Honorary pallbearers include nephews: Chuck Quinn, Larry Quinn, Stevie Quinn, and greatgrandchildren: Emma Booth, Iliamna Sommerlatte, Braxton and Easton Moore, Brayden and Logan Rose Braune.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to McNeil Baptist Church. Services under the care of O’Bannon Funeral Home. The family extends a heartfelt thank you to Hospice Austin for the wonderful care.
The most beautiful and important gifts she gave to her children and grandchildren were her resounding and steadfast trust, faith and hope in the Lord, Jesus Christ.
